Memory of Fontainebleau

I arrived in France and (third visit) I was very taken by the contrasts within a culture that I knew largely from the study of Art History, (Professor Robert Herbert, Yale University). Certainly my attraction to modern music, eg., piano music of Maurice Ravel As well as songs of Ned Rorem who had lived in France from the late 1940’s. His friend Noel was on the composition and piano faculty during my summer visit and we had splendid conversation during the time.
